Qualcomm has announced four new chipsets namely Snapdragon 778G Plus, 695, 680, and 480 Plus. The new chipsets will offer many options to device manufacturers while opting for the Snapdragon processor, which can also help the company better compete with rival MediaTek.
The Snapdragon 778G Plus is as the name suggests, an improved version of the 778G that powers phones like Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G and iQOO Z5. The chip offers a slightly higher performance than its predecessor, with clock speeds ranging from 2.4GHz to 2.5GHz.
This is similar to what we see in the new Snapdragon 480 Plus, which is also a slower version of the entry-level chip of the old Snapdragon 480. The clock performance enhancement here is 2.2GHz instead of 2.0GHz on the non-compliant model.
The new Snapdragon 680 is the only LTE chip built on the same 6nm process as the 695. It is likely to be targeted at regions where 5G is not yet adopted and will help fill Qualcomm's void among its 4G SoC options.
The most interesting of the four SoCs is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, a 600-chip chip that replaces the old Snapdragon 690. Unlike its predecessor, the new 695 will support both mmWave 5G and sub-6GHz 5G, which is nice to see in a mid-level processor.
The chip should help improve data speed even on affordable devices, not just advanced ones. In other words, mid-range chips support 5G so far surpassing mmWave support.
The Snapdragon 695 also offers significant performance enhancements over its predecessors. The company promises a 15 percent improvement in CPU performance and 30 percent more graphics rendered faster than the Snapdragon 690.
